Healthcare resources for the under-resourced of Rome/Floyd Co.

Organizations such as Women of W.O.R.T.H., Cancer Navigators, AIDS Resource Council, Free clinic of Rome and the Floyd County Health Department help the uninsured and those dependent on Medicaid or Medicare.

Women of W.O.R.T.H.

A non-profit organization providing healthcare services and education to empower women. Wellcare and Amerigroup Medicaid Plans are accepted.

            – Free services
                        Pregnancy testing
                        Chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV tests

             – Paid services
                        Women’s annual screening and pap smear – $45
                        IUD insertion or removal – $20
                        Management of abnormal pap smears – $20
                        Birth control – $20
                        STD testing and lab work – $20-$50

            – Other services
                        Pre-pregnancy counseling
                        Medical follow-up for sexual assault
                        Help women to register for Medicaid
                        Offers assistance with the cost of Implanon, a birth control implant

Free Clinic of Rome

The Free Clinic of Rome is a non-profit organization that provides healthcare to uninsured residents of Floyd, Polk and Chattooga counties.

            – Services provided
                        Diabetes monitoring and treatment supplies
                        Dental extractions
                        Free generic medications
                        Hypertension and high blood pressure monitoring
                        Lab tests
                        Eye exams

Floyd County Health Department

The Floyd County Health Department provides healthcare to those with Medicare or Medicaid and to those who are uninsured.

            – Services provided
                        Health check
                        Screenings for vision, hearing, physical examination, nutrition, developmental screening, TB and
                                    lead
                        STD testing
                        Newborn hearing screenings
                        Immunizations required by the county for education

            – For women ages 40-64:
                        Breast cancer screening
                        Cervical cancer screening

AIDS Resource Council

The AIDS Resource Council works to educate the community about AIDS and helps those affected by HIV/AIDS.

                        Free HIV testing and counseling
                        Monthly support group
                        Assistance with paperwork for specific services and benefits
                        Individual counseling
                        HIV/AIDS prevention seminars

Cancer Navigators

Cancer Navigators is a non-profit that helps those who have been diagnosed with cancer to determine the best source of care and to cope with their diagnosis.

            – Services provided
                        Liaison help with health care team
                        Identifying needs of patient
                        Identifying services, resources available to patient, such as Meals on Wheels
                        8-week sustainable wellness courses teaching patients about life during and after treatment
                        Weekend retreats when patients need sanctuary to connect with others going through the same
                                      process
                        Caring for the Caregiver, an initiative that helps doctors and nurses take care of themselves
                        Our Cancer to Health, a 26-week series for women going through stages 2 and 3 of breast cancer
                                      for support and guidance
