Berry College offers a variety of unique activities to do all around campus. With the spring semester in full swing and the weather warming up, couples are looking for date ideas around campus. Here are the top 5 ways to spend a date on the beautiful 27,000 acres of Berry College.
1. Take a stroll past the Kissing Cabin and down the Viking trail
The Cabin in the Pines, or as some students refer to it, the Kissing Cabin, sits in the field next to Hermann Hall and was originally used as a classroom in 1912. As more places on campus were built for classrooms, the cabin eventually became more of an icon to the school. It got the nickname “Kissing Cabin” because it was the middle ground where the boy and girl students would meet to be together. Directly across the street from the cabin is the start to Viking Trail, a three-mile trail that goes from Main Campus all the way up to Mountain Campus. This trail is full of nature and wildlife like the famous deer of Berry College and is a great place for walkers, runners, rollerbladers, and cyclists.
2. Hike to the House O’ Dreams
The House O’ Dreams was built by students and faculty in the early 1920’s as a surprise mountain retreat for Martha Berry. Although she eventually found out, she still acted surprised when the house was ready. Today, it stands as a proud piece of Berry’s history and offers a beautiful hiking trail and mountain views.
3. Stargaze at Frost Chapel
Berry Students and faculty built Frost Chapel in 1937. It was named in honor of John Frost, the deceased son of donors Mr. and Mrs. Howard Frost. Today, it is a popular wedding venue for alumni and the community, and is a beautiful place to visit and relax.
4. ENO at the Reservoir
The Reservoir was donated by Henry Ford in 1927 and is located on Mountain Campus. Aside from being a beautiful place to relax, it also serves as a way to help Berry be self sufficient with its water supply.
Don’t own an ENO? Do not worry! The Cage Center on main campus has ENOs, along with other outdoor accessories, available for student check out.
5. Have a bonfire at the Deerfield fireplace
On cold winter nights, a fireplace is a nice way to stay warm. The Morgan and Deerfield dorm buildings both offer large fireplaces that anyone can use. Just bring your own matches and some marshmallows for the perfect way to end the day.
