Spring is a time for new beginnings, but fall is the time for new shows. Fall show season is starting, and with it comes the promise of premieres. Ladies and gentlemen, start your televisions, because a diverse lineup of new shows is gearing up to race onto the screen.
First up is an ABC thriller called “Designated Survivor,” a show about a low- ranking cabinet member who is thrust into the position of President of the United Sates after a deadly attack on the capitol. Tom Kirkman (played by Kiefer Sutherland) must find a way to keep the country from falling apart, and his own family together, as he enters a dangerous hunt to find those responsible for the attack. This show premiered Wednesday at 9 p.m. Another show to get excited about is Marvel’s new super hero series, “Luke Cage.” In the Netflix original, Luke Cage (played by Mike Colter) begins to use his unwanted powers. Clad in a hoodie and bulletproof skin, this hero sets out to defend the streets of Harlem and clear his name. Season one will be available for streaming on Sept. 30.
Next on the list is NBC’s new comedy “The Good Place.” When Eleanor Shellstrop (played by Kristen Bell) is mistakenly sent to the Good Place instead of the Bad Place where she belongs, she sets out to find the good person inside of herself and start over while discovering what actually makes a “good” person. The sitcom premiered on Monday at 10 p.m.
Up next is “Westworld,” according to HBO’s website, set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past. Inspired by the 1973 film by the same name, “Westworld” explores the idea of artificial intelligence and a theme park created to fulfill every human desire. The drama series, which consists of 10 one hour-long episodes, premieres on Oct. 2 at 9 p.m.
What would you do if your boyfriend turned out to be someone doing his best to turn you into an “apocalyst”? That is the premise of “No Tomorrow,” a new CW romantic comedy about the girlfriend of a man convinced that humanity has only eight months to live. The show follows them on their pursuit to complete his bucket list before an asteroid destroys earth. The show will premiere at 9 p.m. on Oct. 4.
Fall television also offers new content from old favorites.
ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder” will premiere tonight at 10 p.m. The show’s third season teases just as much drama as the two previous seasons. After the season two finale left viewers with a lot of questions, the new season promises answers.
Another one of ABC’s hot shows, “Once Upon a Time,” will return on Sunday at 8 p.m. with its season six premiere. After the season five finale introduced new characters, fans of the show have been left wondering about the future of Storybrook.
On Tuesday Oct. 4 at 8 p.m., the CW’s hit show “Flash” will return for its third season. The show’s second season finale ended with The Flash going back in time, but left viewers wondering what would happen in the aftermath of his time traveling. The season’s trailers hinted at a new villain and an alternate universe resulting from the Flash’s decision.
The rest of the fall offers plenty of television shows, old and new, to look forward to watching while avoiding the pile of homework sitting next to your desk.
