A stream of rainwater floods the hallway of the first floor of west Dana residence hall on Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m.

The tides have quite literally turned since last semester’s severe drought as heavy rainfall on Sunday inundated several residence halls.

According to student witnesses, what began as a much needed winter shower quickly became both an inconvenience and a danger to residents.

The flooding significantly impacted Dana Hall, particularly on the first floor on the west side.

The resident assistant on the first floor of West Dana, Bella Fornuto, recognized that the rain would cause flooding before it had even infiltrated any of the halls or rooms.

“I walked into Dana around 6:15 p.m. and noticed some water coming into the West Dana Lobby due to the over-ankle-deep puddle forming outside of the door to the lobby,” Fornuto said.

According to freshman Hannah Avery, who lives on the first floor and west side of the building, the flooding indeed became much worse. She reported an influx of rainwater not only in the lobby, but also in her own room.

The chaos caused by the Sunday evening shower was not limited to Dana Hall. The townhouses also reportedly faced a surge of rainwater. The residence hall of Morton-Lemley, while not being flooded through the doorways, had water leakage through the ceilings and into the light fixtures.

Avery said that she would certainly remember this flooding incident when she looks back on her college experience.
