As some of you know, I’ve been struggling with my weight here at Berry for quite a while. When I first got here, I was so overwhelmed with independence that I ate all kinds of fast food. It also doesn’t help that Berry and Chick-fil-A are basically best friends.
After some deep thinking about myself, I decided to make some changes in my life. I stopped drinking soda, eating fast food and started eating better. Everything, I think, has been going well so far. I’ve been keeping up with my changes, give or take a small Sprite, and I’m really starting to feel good about myself. The only real thing, I feel, that’s getting in the way is Berry’s lack of healthy eating.
I started noticing this trend when I went to my first work meeting back at Oak Hill. We always seem to order pizza and get dark soda like Coke. I can already see what you’re thinking, “but Emily, you don’t have to eat it.” You’re completely right. That’s just another choice I need to make. Berry is full of choices. I encourage you to walk into Valhalla and point out all the healthy food. It’s really hard. What’s even harder is trying to find healthy food that actually sounds good. Whenever I walk into Valhalla, I get a huge urge to grab a tub of Ben & Jerry’s, a chicken sandwich and a big ol’ Dr. Pepper and hide out in my room. Again, self control. I should just get some just, a light something and be on my way. This is where the last part of my written rant comes in.
Why is it that soda is cheaper than anything else to drink in Valhalla? It seems a bit unfair that I’m not only fighting myself, but I’m also fighting my flex bucks just to feel better about my body.
I understand most of this can all be solved if I just stop complaining and eat more salads. I just want to be able to walk to Valhalla and grab something I want that’s 1. Tasty, 2. At a cheap price, and 3. Helps me with my goal to lose weight.
