Multiple tweets complaining about being stuck in the mud and being turned away from formal were sent to the Berry College Twitter account on Saturday.
Since last year’s formal was held at Ford, students had higher expectations that this formal wouldn’t have been as poorly executed. But unfortunately, there is a high possibility that there is still mud remains on attire and shoes that were worn to Berry’s biggest spring event.
However, mud on formal attire was the lesser of the complaints and problems with this event. Without shuttle transportation from Berry to Burk farms, there were people who stayed in a car line for an hour or more. When these people were finally able to park, they had no choice but to leave their car in the mud, leaving many without four-wheel drive vehicles stuck for hours. After all of this drama, hundreds were turned away because of lack of capacity.
KCAB sent out an apology email and explained that the average number of formal attendees is around 500-600 people. This year, they estimated around 1,200 people went to this event, with many walk-up purchases made. Since Berry’s population is the highest it’s ever been this academic year, KCAB should have prepared for a place that could hold a larger capacity, and maybe a place with mud-free parking.
There are a few solutions that could solidify this problem won’t happen next year. A lot of people who already bought tickets were turned away. The solution to this particular problem is to plan the location accordingly to a true estimate of attendees. KCAB should get a clear number, and by doing this, they should not extend ticket sales and allow walk-ups.
Another problem was that there wasn’t enough parking and people had to wait to park or drop their friends off for an hour or more. This could’ve been an easy fix by offering shuttle services from Berry. They offered transportation to Berry’s first football game, why not formal?
KCAB has apologized for the inconvenience and are reimbursing those who bought tickets and were denied of being able to attend formal. Hopefully they’ll learn from their mistakes next year.
