Spain finds difficulty in dealing with its past

Spain has difficulty with coming to grips with its past civil war and dictatorship. Many monuments to this time have been removed from the public eye but there are some that still loom large in the streets of Madrid.

Laws enforced in Madrid and throughout Spain have largely erased all public remembrance of Spain’s civil war and almost forty years of Francisco Franco’s fascist regime. Monuments such as the Arch of Victory however, are still standing for all to see.
