With the Emmy Awards three days away, predictions are circulating the Internet as avid television fans promote their favorite shows and actors. However, for those who are not as tuned into the Emmy nominations, or for those who believe “Friends” should be the Most Outstanding Comedy Show of 2015, here is a short summary of some of the shows nominated for the 67th Annual Emmy Awards.
The following are nominated for Outstanding Drama Series.
“Game of Thrones” is currently between its fifth and sixth season on HBO. The show centers around several ruling families battling for the control of the Kingdom of Westeros.
“Better Call Saul” is a crime drama on AMC that originated as a spin off/prequel to “Breaking Bad,” the Outstanding Drama Series of 2014, and focuses on the life of Saul Goodman, Walter White’s lawyer. It follows Goodman, then known as James Morgan McGill, a lawyer in New Mexico.
“Orange is the New Black” is a Netflix original series. The show is about a group of women in prison at Litchfield Penitentiary. This is the show’s first year competing in the Drama Category of the Emmys.
“House of Cards,” another Netflix original series, follows politician Francis Underwood and the political corruption and power struggles in Washington, D.C.
“Mad Men” is a drama set in the 1960s about Don Draper, an advertiser with Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce on Madison Avenue. The show ended after seven seasons on May 17.
“Homeland” is a thriller series about a CIA operations officer who receives word of a prisoner of war who has been influenced by terrorists. She attempts to keep surveillance over him in order to protect the country.
“Downton Abbey” is a British period drama set during the 1910- 20s. The show ventures into the lives of the Crawley family and their servants and features many historical events. The show will air its final season in late 2015.
The following are nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.
“Modern Family” was created as a “mockumentary” showing the lives of father Jay Pritchett and his family. The show has won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy series for five years.
“Transparent” is an Amazon original dramedy about a family’s life after their discovery that their father is transgender. The show is currently on its third season.
“Parks and Recreation” is a comedy about Leslie Knope’s struggles as the deputy director of the parks and recreation department of Pawnee, a fictional town in Indiana. The show concluded on Feb. 24 after seven seasons.
“Silicon Valley” is about six men who have started a company in Silicon Valley. The show allows a new take on modern technology and the so-called “geeks” who create it.
“Veep” is a comedy about Selina Meyer, the fictional vice president of the United States who later becomes president. The show airs on HBO.
“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” is a Netlifx comedy produced by Tina Fey. It follows Kimmy, a young woman experiencing the real world for the first time after spending 15 years in a cult.
“Louie” is a comedy centering around a fictionalized version of comedian Louie C.K. as he experiences life as both a newly single father and successful stand-up comedian.
The Emmys will air on Fox at 8 p.m. on Sept 20.
