A closer look into Berry’s post office.

The post office. It’s the amazing place that delivers the new shoes you ordered. Or the annoying place where your textbook still hasn’t shown up. The love (or hate) goes up and down depending on the item inside the box which can at times create a lot of stress for the workers. Just know that they aren’t out to get you.

“One thing I would like to say is that a lot of students here think that we don’t help them out or we’re not interested, but we actually care about getting their package.” Sophomore Taylor Wilkins said.

Senior Emily Bevels is in her fourth year of working at the post office. Although she enjoys working at the post office, it comes with stressful moments.

“One thing I wish that people understood was that we work really, really hard to provide for this community and sometimes that goes unrecognized or people get frustrated.” Bevels said. “But it would be nice if people understood that we really are doing the best that we can.”

The busiest times of the year are at the beginning of each semester where students are expecting textbooks. Want some advice on getting your textbook on time? Order it early, ahead of the rush and expect it to take a day or two longer than you plan. Remember all packages first get dropped off at the post office in Rome before they come to Berry which can create a little delay.

Despite all the stress and sometimes aggravated students, working at the post office is quite enjoyable.

“We have really good bosses. They’re cool, they care about us, they feed us. We’re taken care of. And I like my coworkers.” Wilkins said.

Bevels enjoys the community that the post office builds.

“I’ve worked here for four years and they’re like family just because we’re together all the time.” She said. “And you get to know everybody at Berry because everyone comes to pick up their package so I know most of the professors.”
