Ask Vicki: Take the new job

By Vicki The Viking, Campus Carrier Advice Columnist

Dear Vicki,

I got a job offer that I can’t refuse, but that means I have to quit my current job. I know that accepting the job offer will be the best choice for me, but I feel guilty for leaving where I am currently employed. How should I handle it?

Sincerely,

Stuck in the Middle

 Dear Stuck in the Middle,

Quitting your job can be really hard, but in this case it will be worth it. It sounds like you like your current job, but when an opportunity arises that will be better for your future you should definitely take it. If your employer cares for you, they will understand your decision and cheer you on. Just be honest and sincere when you talk to them about this so that you leave on good terms.

There is no reason to feel guilty. You might be worrying about leaving a job where you are needed, but they will be able to manage without you. You have a job offer that will ultimately be better for you in the long run, so take advantage of opportunities like this while you can!

Sincerely,

Vicki
