Rome is full of great restaurant options for all vegetarian and vegan foodies! Here are a few that Berry students recommend:
Mellow Mushroom
Check out this hippie-themed pizzeria for things like vegan cheese, tempeh, tofu, veggie burgers, veggie appetizers and more. Most small pizzas run about $14, and there are several yummy veggie pizza options like “Freshies,” “Gourmet White” and “Mega-Veggie.”
Jerusalem Grill
If you’re in the mood for a Mediterranean-style meal, try their hummus, baba ganouj, dolmas, foolmuadmes, falafel, falafel sandwiches, rice, salads and pita bread. The falafel plate, which comes with several pieces of falafel, rice and a salad, is about $10 with a drink.
Yummy Thai Cuisine
There’s more to Yummy Thai than just noodles. They have tofu, spring and veggie rolls, curry, wok stir fry and vegan sauce. Veggie and tofu dishes all run about $10.
Purple Mountain Natural Foods
Visit Purple Mountain for all natual groceries and produce. They supply vegan, vegetarian, organic and gluten-free products.
Speak Cheesy Food Truck
Hunt down this traveling grilled-cheese food truck for vegetarian sandwiches and artichoke hearts. Most days, they can be found at River Dogs on Broad Street, and information about their locations each day can be found on their website. You can get a full meal, which includes a sandwich, soup and drink for $10.
Schroeder’s New Deli
Schroeder’s offers really yummy, cheap food like pizzas, sandwices and appetizers. They offer several veggie options and are very accomodating to dietary restrictions. You can get the “Salvador Deli” vegetarian sandwich and a drink for less than $6, with tax.
Jamwich
This eccentric eatery offers a variety of sandwiches that all include in-house jams or jellies. Although they only typically have 1 or 2 veggie options on the menu, they are very willing to substitute meats out for veggies on most of their sandwiches. The Berry Basil, which is about $10 with a choice of side and drink, is a vegetarian fave.
